Canoeing

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced paddler, there are a number of activities to enjoy on the Cuckmere River and on the sea at Cuckmere Haven.

For beginners the meanders of the Cuckmere River provide shallow and still water (much of it is only 2-3 feet deep) which is fine for building confidence in those who are initially a little unsure of canoeing.

Experienced paddlers can paddle east along to the Birling Gap or west towards Seaford Head - both directions providing some wonderful coastal scenery. When conditions are suitable the bay can be used for kayak surfing which can be very exhilarating if you have never tried it.

Possibilities include: flat water paddling, sea paddling, kayak surfing, local river trips and white-water river trips. Paddling opportunities dependant on personal skills.
